Not a traditional shot of the ranch or the horse, but something about it appeals to me…
This was the morning after a snow storm. Temperature was maybe 30 degrees, brisk wind blowing, and I spotted these guys out on the water. I was freezing shooting them from the shore…
Tried to get a shot of one of the dogs catching a treat. It didn’t go well.
Photo shoot… over.
I took a walk during a break in the rain. One of the horses decided to give a show. These shots were taken near sunset on a cloudy day – not good for capturing fast motion. But I like the blurred effect of some of the shots.
Just a camera, a zoom lens, and a tripod. I’m pretty happy with the result. Exposure 1/2500 at f / 5.6, ISO 1250, Nikon D7000 with Nikon 18-200mm zoom lens.

Soon spring will return
A break from the bird pictures. Decided to post something to go with the family feeling of Thanksgiving, and it’s a reminder of a sunny spring day.
Took a road trip this weekend and decided to get off the interstate and explore some of the side roads. This is what I found. Nothing extraordinary. Just a farm and the morning sun. Next road trip I take – more side trips.
An experiment in HDR (high dynamic range) photography. HDR can let you capture some details that would be difficult to get with a single shot. This is a combination of 3 shots of the moon with an 18-200 zoom lens, f/9, exposures of 1/250 second, 1/500 second, and 1/1250 second. Shots were merged with Photomatix Pro 4.0. Click on the picture to see a larger version of the shot.
Some shots from around the ranch that amused me.
I don’t think he was in the mood to be photographed…
“What’s going on out there???”
Playing “hide and go seek” with the horses can be fun, but it isn’t very challenging…
They looked very guilty when I walked by. I think they’re plotting something.
“I’m ready for my close-up….”
“It’s cold and cloudy and I’m bored….”
“On my back – still bored…”
I was taking some long exposure shots of the night sky, trying to get the focus right, and a plane flew over. The three lines are the lights on the wingtips and the tail of the plane, and the dots in the lines are the flashes of the lights.
