May not look like much, but I’m very happy to get this much detail without a telescope. Used my Nikon D60, a tripod, and an 18-200mm zoom lens. A 0.5 second exposure at f/5.6.

Fabulous! I’m really glad that my advice helped. I found out by chance (surfing tips on photographing planets) that Nov. 2010 is a particularly good month for viewing Jupiter because earth and Jupiter are the closest they’ve been since 1963 (368 million miles closer!). http://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/bright-star-might-be-planet-jupiter-nearly-closest-since-1963. Also, you might already know about this, but if you haven’t downloaded Stellarium, you should. It’s a wonderful program. http://stellarium.org. I was curious about photographing Saturn, input my geo coordinates, checked the dates, and realised I would have to do it at 4 a.m. Anyway, good luck!
Wow! Good capture! I’m going to have to invest in a better camera before I can start tackling stars — or planets!
I saw this through my telescope recently. It’s incredible. The first time I’ve seen something that wasn’t visible with my naked eye. Good shot! Mine came out too blurry, saying that, my eyes were streaming and my hands were shaking so I didn’t hold much hope.
